This is a reply to Amber Gibby, who asked about dogs in Mooney Falls. I hiked down in 1986 & 1988. Based on that timeframe, Mooney Falls is accessed via a narrow passage where people hold onto a chainlink. I would say dogs would have no difficulty getting there and just walk down the slope. Why not call the contact numbers and get a second opinion? My first time down I held on with one hand and held onto a camera tripod with the other. I clicked on the email contact to answer you, but the webpage insisted I be a system administrator to use that. I'm not much of a computer person and figured this is the simplest way to go...We are going in May also, first week. No one who goes to the Grand Canyon should bypass Havasupai. And no one should bypass walking to the bottom at the South Rim either. I give the Havasupai tribe permission to give you my email address if you wish to write. Have a great trip.

AMAZING!! I just got back and can't wait to go back. My trip was outstanding and way too short. I enjoyed everything about that canyon. Beauty and culture. Words can not describe. Thanks for allowing us to come to your village and sharing those amazing waterfalls.

March 8th-12th was my second trip down the canyon. I was lucky enough to experience this with 2 different amazing 4th grade classes. The memories we created on this trip are priceless can't wait to go again!!! I really want to thank John Weible for making it happen and all the chaperones that make the trip run smoothly.

Everyone should do this trip at least once even if you don't do it with 27 4th graders ;)

This is the 3rd year now we've been bringing our students from the Gila River Indian Reservation and it gets better every time! This year we had 27 4th graders make the 10-mile hike down to the falls and they had a blast! It is truly a trip they will never forget. We spent about $8K on our trip and it was worth every penny. I'm already planning next year's trip.

If you're considering seeing the Grand Canyon, don't just go to the look out points on the South Rim. Hike the 10 miles and really see the canyon. There's no other way. :D

Hello,

I am hiking the falls in May with family and friends. My sister and I would love to take our dogs since they love to hike and camp. The office did say dogs are allowed, however I am wondering if Mooney Falls causes problems with dogs and if there is a way to get them down. It is the only part some people have said would be a problem. Any information would help. Thanks.

Also feedback from past hikers would help

Just hiked from hilltop to campground & beyond the past few days. Everything was perfect. Tough hike in. Pace yourself, take plenty of water & be ready for the good burn in your legs & back. Camping sites were great. Hiking down Mooney is highly advised. Seems a bit scary, but totally doable. Hiked to Beaver & this was a nice hike as well. Falls are amazing, water was great (a little chilly, but tolerable). Hike out is a rough one, but doable with time, rest & water. Pay to have your backpack taken out by mule & only hike out with daypack. Much more enjoyable on my part I know. :!cool:
